I just finished the install yesterday, and she sounds wonderful 
I did not want to spend thousands to improve the sound in the car, but I could not deal with the stock "system"
Here is what I installed:
Alpine 9827 hu
Alpine MRP F240 amp
Polk DB6500 components up front
Sony 5.25" 2-ways in rear
Monster Cable 4ga power/gr + 12ga sepaker Wiring w/ RCAs
carpeted amp rack in spare
I am sooooo pleased with the results and I only took a small chip out of the "mod money" account.
I did not want to spend thousands to improve the sound in the car, but I could not deal with the stock "system"

200 used alpine 9815
100 sony amp 350x2 ebay!
100 sony amp 1000x1 ebay!
120 Jl 12w3 and homemade box 1/2'' MDF (got the wood for 4 bucks at home depot!)
150 CDT 6.2 components (clearance at zeb.com)
12 wiring kit from circiut city
65 lucid dethp kit and xtc baskets
65 audioban light up grille. (bling purposes only)
100 lucid DCI
40 bucks for extra wires, fuses, box terminals, connectors, carpet, etc.
about 900 total
