9857 Ipod buggy?
Same problem...Error 01, skipping tracks (doesnt have to be a long track) etc.
I have over 6000 songs on the IPOD (gen 4 - 40 gig)
Gotta get to the bottom of this...
P.S. This is on my 9856

Yeah, I think we can count out long tracks as the problem. Mine is acting up regardless of track length now. 4th generation here too. Perhaps there's a link there?
Interesting that it happens on a 9856. So the new "faster" connection may not be the culprit.

My 9857 works fine on all tracks. You cannot search with mix on. Also i have a new 30gb Ipod but not many really long songs. I freeze up about once a week.
Works fine on all tracks except when it freezes up once a week, maybe? do you get that error 01 msg?
I just started having problems with my 9856/Ipod nano connection. When I try to play a playlist or album with the 9856, it just scrolls through the songs without playing anything. The display just shows Track 01, then 02, 03, 04, etc. Sometimes it will skip a number(s) too.
Also, it was getting hung up trying to scroll through lists. I was using the rotary knob on the HU and the display would stop on an album and not do anything for 5-10 sec, even though I was turning the knob.
Has anyone else run into this problem?

I called Alpine tech support about my problem, which they were not aware of ever happening. Alpine had me update my Ipod, and then do this thing where you hold down the menu button and the middle round button until the Ipod shuts off, then it will turn itself on again.
I did that and everything works fine now. Perhaps that would help some of the other problems we are having with the 9856/9857. Alpine also suggested that I reset the head unit via a little red button behind the face plate. I didn't do that - I wanted to see if resetting the ipod worked as I didn't want to lose my radio stations, settings, etc.
I hope this information is helpful to someone.
