Default 9857 Ipod buggy?

Just hooked up a 9857 with "fullspeed" Ipod connection on my 06 and I noticed a disturbing problem....

I have a bunch of HUGE mp3s on my Ipod (continuous mixes). When I try to playback these huge mp3s on my 9857/Ipod combo, the HU freezes. Sometimes it works when just playing song by song (no browsing), but hit next track and it breaks again. It's quite unpredictable. The error message is "Error 01" or something, which means communication error. When I only load normal length songs (< 10 min) the 9857/Ipod combo is great.

This may have something to do with the new "full speed" connection, which I'm guessing employs some sort of buffering of songs, which I can see getting trashed by huge files.

So just a warning to anybody with continuous mix CDs considering a 9857/Ipod combo. You might want to wait and see how this pans out.

Sooooo................anybody else experience this yet? Any suggestions?
My Ipod is old, but the firmware is flashed and up to date. So is my itunes. The huge MP3s play fine from the Ipod itself.

I haven't but I only have 1 or 2 songs that are over 10 minutes.

That does suck though

I'll test it. The only problem I've experienced is that it seems to skip songs sometimes. Like if I choose an album it will show that it's going to start playing track 1, but then it jumps to track 2. I don't know if it's getting impatient waiting for the ipod HD to spin up or what. I unhooked the ipod and then plugged it back in and that seemed to solve the problem at least temporarily.

Update:

Things seem to be ok when not using any special browse mode. That is, when all songs are listed in song order (that's 357 songs for me...blah!). Then, when I scroll through, everything plays fine, even the big mp3s. It's only when you do the browse by album and artist it fudges out on big mp3s.

No browsing is a pain the arse though,
More to come....future 9857 owners stay tuned....

hmm, i'm thinking getting the 9857 and I also have many large mp3's. One track continuous.

i hope that glitch isn't too much of a problem.

thats why im a fan of just hooking up the audio (unamp'ed, line-out), and letting the ipod gui take care of operations and controls

i just installed this deck today, and i don't have any tracks of that size on my ipod yet, but i'll let you know.

what's bugging me though is i can't seem to search/browse songs by playlist/artist/album/etc. i press that file button to search and it does nothing!! i dunno what's up, it'll do the quick search feature if i hold it down, but other than that it's usless. any suggestions?

Try disconnecting and reconnecting. If that doesn't work, you could wipe out your ipod (restore to factory settings) and try it again. I still run into that Error 01 problem, but when I wipe the ipod clean, it seems to work okay for a while. The 9857 sucks so far, in my opinion. Maybe mine (or the Ipod cable) is just defective.
