Well the car is going in for the stereo and alarm installation on Tuesday. I would like some advice and am prepared to upgrade before the install.

This is what I bought:

Alpine 7893 head unit (60x4)
Alpine V12 MRD-M300 mono amp
Alpine Type R 10 " sub (I am keeping this because I have built an MDF box)
Alpine SPR-176A 6.5" Type R components
Alpine SEC-150R alarm (hood/trunk pins,automatic door locks...the works)
Paid $1,665.00 for the 5 pieces Canadian (1,070.05 US$) plus 7% tax of $116.55 and about $40 for sub box supplies.

With this set up I would be using the internal amp from the headunit to power the component speakers. Isn't this car small enough to allow this to work? I know I can upgrade by getting an amp for the components.

If any changes, please tell me what? Keeping all Alpine is not essential.

Thanks

I strongly advise some rear speakers for your system. It's not complete without them.

The amp in the HU is not 60watts rms. More like 25 or 30. For the kind of volume I know you will want to play this system at, I would get an amp for the components. Who's installing it?

Lets hook up for a demo after you get it installed.

I would also suggest getting a amp for the componenets as i think the bass will drone out the highs since it is getting power from a 1 channel amp.

My concern is that the Alpine SPR-176A's are not very efficient. (86dB). I don't think an amp will help much with these since they are only rated up to 50 watts RMS. I am planning to do a similar Alpine setup (with a CDA 7894). I chose Polk EXA 2560s for my door speakers (92dB at 1M @1W) and also EX502as in the back. Because the you don't have as much power directly from the radio, you can try to set the crossover higher on the radio since you have 300 watts from the sub amp @2ohms (I assume you have the type R sub with dual 4 ohm voice coils).

Also you need a few parts to handle the dash controls. Either a PAC SWI-X from Lucid or DJ Qube's dash control mod.

Thanks for the info so far...

Is it ok to keep the Alpine 7893 head unit and add an amp for the component speakers? I don't really want the mp3 player on the 7995 model.

I think I'll be shopping for a new amp and possibly compnents for the doors. One day left until install!

If you're planning on upgrading to an amp for your components, you MAY have the function in the Alpine head unit to turn off the internal amp if you're not using it. It will give you a little piece of mind if you can get a hold of the owner's manual for your head unit before you buy it.

update...

have upgraded to Alpine 7995 and new Alpine 2 channel amp for components.

problem is I still haven't chosen my component speakers...I tried the Alpine type R's again and they are not that good so I have returned them.

Good choice on head unit!

Not sure if you have a 2002 S2000 or not, but if you're trying to fit in your stock tweeter pods, your choices are obviously limited.

I'm running MB Quart 6 1/2" 2-way components, and I am happy with the sound quality when played loud enough to drown out freeway noise with the top down... But if you have your amp already, you should basically be matching your amp rating to your component speaker rating. How much power is your amp running?
