You mean you wanna do this.

Here are some quick info.
With the windscreen in the upright position, use a small flat to remove the 2 caps that covers the screws. Then use a larger philips to unscrew it. Sit on a comfortable chair with the windscreen in hand. Use a couple of small flat driver, or find someone with nails, to pry open the unit. The best place to start is on either tip. It is make out of hard plastic, and will not break that easy. carefully and slowly pull it apart. The two piece is glued together with soft gooey glues. Once the pieces are apart, you can use your hand to remove the rest off the glue. the actual screen is screw to one side of the mount via 3 screw. Take those off, give to your friend to engrave it. all you need is several leds pointing at the correct position to illuminated. If your friend can engrave it for you for free, then buy several leds and wire them together and you are all set. It took me about 10 hours and 20 bucks. I personally recommend getting Dan's (Modifry) kit, which include a multi-color led solution. When you break, it turns red, when you backup, it turns white, it even blink yellow when you signal.
When you say engrave, are they just etching the plastic on the surface? Did you provide a design or something or are they using some sort of template lettering?

ya its a laser etcher. i give him the design on a cd or whatever , he loads it to his computer, and the machine does the work.

ssfiit, that is exactly what i was looking for. thank you so much. i think i might do the different color led thing as well. i just wanted to do it myselft for 2 reasons: because it s a cool little project to keep me busy, and because i already have the leds, wiring, and ability to etch.

thank you so much

ill have to get some pics up as i do it

Here is a picture of my results. I used a heat gun to heat up the glue before pulling apart the black enclosure. This made things a lot easier and a lot less stress full. )no breakage)

wow thats neat.. modifry looks like the best way to go ..
Just a small correction... Modifry (Bob) does not make something like this (at least that I'm aware of). Other than me (Dan), there was only one other person who made lighting units for the windscreen, and I believe he gave up his quest when he realized the amount of money to be made with windscreen lights compared to the hassle/cost of running a website business was too much.

If you want a single color, it's cheaper to purchase AutoZone LEDs and tear down the package. If you want more functionality (infinite color selection, red with brake, white with reverse, amber with turn signals, etc.), my Windscreen Lights are an option.

Would you happen to have a video of all these functions working?
