Default Adire Koda / Toolwell Box

Alright guys,

Getting marginally closer to actually doing something with the audio in the car. Decided to sacrifice the toolwell for the sub instead of fooling with a small box and an 8" sub. Since I have an unused 4x85w amp laying around, and a nice Alpine head unit sitting around doing nothing, I'll use those temporarily until I feel like dumping in more money.

So I have 2 basic questions right now.

1. Is anyone using Adire Koda 6.1 components. If so, what did you have to do to mount them, and do you like them? I suspect the mounting depth would be the biggest issue so I guess an MDF ring is in order, but I just want to know for sure. If these won't work, I suppose I'll order the Focals or Bostons.

2. When doing the MDF box for the toolwell, assuming using the suggested flat top box, and the bottom that hugs the countours of the well, what is the depth available? I need to know how much room I am going to have there to mount a sub. Could be the determiing factor between a 12" or a 10" sub in that space.

Thanks much.

Did you check the FAQ? (It's locked at the top of this forum)

If you get to the "#S2000-specific Topics" section, two of the questions there are
"Will my speakers fit" and "Where can I put a 12" sub?"

I don't have the numbers memorized but if you go there, there are measurement and drawings

Yea, I checked the FAQ. And did more poking around afterwards. The issues for me were that I saw two different mounting depth's available on boxes for the toolwell. One giving about 7.25 and the other 6.xx. So I got confused. Since I know you fit a Brahma, and I intend to do the same thing, I think I'll be ok there.

Since Lucid's site is down, I can't find out any info about the rings used to mount the 6.5" speakers and that would have cleared up this whole issue for me. I just didn't want to order a set of 3" deep Koda's and then not be able to fit them. I did see ONE other person on the board list that they were running these, so maybe I'll drop him a PM.

Thanks

Was I that other person who had Kodas?

Because I do...and they fit

I'm using Lucid's adapters and the fit is a tight one...

Yeah, I can't really display my pictures since I'm not a member...not that I have very many pictures of my system anyway.

I didn't use the extra depth kit--just the adapters. They sound great. The tweeter is in a kickpanel, as well as the mid driver. I only used the Koda6 midbass, not the whole component set.

From top to bottom, here's my year-old setup:

...............Clarion 735 mp
..........................||
....................ARC MX3
..........................||
Autotek SX4160 = JL 300/4
..........||......................||
Adire Brahma12.......2 x Morel MR55
2 x Adire Koda6.......2 x Focal TN45

So you see, there's two amps--one mounted vertically along the fore wall and the other mounted in the small space in the tool well that the sub box doesn't use.

Hmm...if I had to do it over again...

Well, if you asked me this question a week ago, I might have answered that I wish I had just put a very light system in. The reason is that I had been using my S as a daily driver and the kickpanel got in the way and the trunk o' stereo equipment made it impossible to carry anything.

However, I just bought a beater over the weekend so I'm very happy with the setup in my S again.

LOL.

So a beater was the magic bullet eh! OKAY!

Anyway, I think I have a better idea now. So you didn't use the extra depth kit.. just the adapter. This is somewhat different than my idea of using the whole component set with the Koda midbass in the stock location, and then finding a suitable spot for the tweeter.

Interesting choices for the amps. Very nice to know that one of them actually fits BELOW the sub box. That could be quite useful, as it would allow me to keep my spare tire. I think I need less trunk than you seem to need so I might well be able to find a way to put one amp below the sub, and another inside the spare tire. This would give me access to pretty much the entire trunk space. I should be able to make a home for the tools above the fuel tank. Very tidy. Now all I need is some money!

By the way, did you install a CD changer in your setup? If so, where did you find room for that?

100 mp3s??? What do you listen at 96s and 128s? I can't get anywhere NEAR that many on a disc. I am also out of town 2-3 weekends per month on the road, so having a good selection of music is pretty important to me. I am looking into XM for much the same reason.
