I have a compustar pager alarm. The listed range is about 5 times that of the Viper alarm. There are only 4 buttons on the computstar remote. It is pretty easy to use, but I think (but am not sure) that the Viper would be a little more user friendly.

Chec k out the link in my sig for more info on the compustar.

There are a lot of good systems out there, Compustar and Viper being a couple of the better ones.

I'm assuming that you won't be doing the installation. With that in mind, you'll want to take a little time shopping around for a competent and reliable place to take your car to. I definitely recommend finding a place that is experienced with the system you want installed as well as higher end vehicles. You might want to ask friends/coworkers around where you live or even try the regional forums here to see who is recommended and who is not.

Also, you should think about how you want your vehicle protected, where you park, and if you keep the top down a lot or not. Otherwise, you'll end up with an expensive noisemaker instead of an effective alarm.

i would definately go with a DEI products. the other brands like alladin and compustar or ok. i have delt with both. range is definately better on the alladin and compustar. but gotta keep in mind what ur really buyin now. both the alladin and compustar have onboard relays. and the DEI ones are all separate. thus easier to hid the brain. tryin to hide the brain on an alladin or compustar is imposible. and once located its easily to disarm. i also found that most aftermarket accessories (ie. prox sensor, channel 2,3,4,5 outputs, and anyother stuff u wanta add) is easier to add to. but my main concern is keepin the car safe and cant find alarm. but if u would rather have better range then go with the other two. but i recommend the new clifford rs3.5x. or 2.5x

thanks guys... i just went to this place, mobile car audio i think. I asked whats the best one they got, and they only got clifford brand alarms. The one they recommended was the RS3 i think. not sure what it was called but they said it was the 2-way and the remote that comes with it is carbon fiber style. They gave me a price of $550 installed. Do you guys think this is a good alarm to get? and is the price good?

550 for the new clifford rs3.5x is definately decent installed. i usually charge customers about 500 installed but with out additional parts needed. like to bypass immobilizer. see what they are offering for features. like trunk pop. trunk and hood pin, and most important the remote start. most stores wont install them in manual tranny cars. so just make sure they have it. clifford just came out with a model that doesnt come with the remote start and is only going for about 400 installed. so double check with the guys to see whats included and whats not.

It's a question of semantics. It will work on a manual transmission, it just means they have to bypass the clutch safety switch, and since there's no neutral switch on our car they won't do it because it's unsafe.

If you forget and leave it in gear, remote start can cause a lot of damage, assuming you're lucky enough not to run over somebody with it. While it can be tied into the parking brake (won't start unless the brake is ON) that's not enough to keep the car from moving, especially since the brake switch can be activated with only one click.

I keep saying I'm going to build a neutral switch for mine, along with a secondary safety system but I never get around to it.
