Default Advice on a sub

I have an Alpine PDX 4.100. Its rated at 130 watts per channel.

Front two channels are going to a set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components. The rear two channels will be bridged for a sub.

First set of question...

I would prefer to keep the speakers the same brand, Infinity. My question would be... is 260 watts enough to push a Infinity Kappa Perfect 10DVQ which is rated at 400 watts RMS? Or should i get the Infinity Kappa 102.7w which is rated at 350 watts? Or am i just being silly trying to stick with Infinity?

Seecond question...

According to the guy i bought the amp from, he said the PDX amps will not increase in output even at a 2 ohm impedance. Is this true? So since the amp is rated at 130 watts per channel, i will only be getting 260 watts bridged and no more?

TIA

The Infinity sub is very nice, and 200wrms if enough for normal people who want a little bass, and don't want to shake the block.

A speaker's power rating does not mean you have to power it with that level of power...."enough to push"? If the thing was attached to your head, 1 watt might be plenty.

You should pick the speaker that would work best for the type of music you like to listen, how it sounds and weather you can match it to the proper enlosure you are building for it.

Yes, the PDX amps are designed for optimum power at 4ohm, with no increase at 2ohm. 260 watts to one sub is plenty.

I connected my friends Image Dynamics IDMAX sub to my amp and it barely pushed the sub even at full volume.

^^ That sub (IDMAX) needs more power than your amp can put out. You need to try to match the output of the amp to the rms rating of the speaker that you want to push, for best results.

If you under-power or over-power a speaker too much, it will distort and could reduce the life of the speaker greatly.

When you tried that....was the sub in an enclosure? Also, their products have high X-max and low sensitivity specs which would also impact SPL.
