AEM EMS and Temperature gauge

I just installed one of these units on a AEM equipped car. The module is marked "AEM". The gauge segements light all the way to segment 7, with the car running. AEM logs show coolant temp in the 190deg range.
I've reprogrammed the unit using the AEM data file from Modifry's site and hyperterminal. The LED on the unit stays solid for longer than 4-5 seconds during programming, then 2 blinks.
I do have another ECT module programmed for a stock PCM, I'm tempted to swap them and reprogram.
Any thoughts?

Reprograming the ECT should be done before intalling them? Or I have to install it, download the via hyperterminal and then get my lapton to the car and connect it to the ECt??
I am going to install it these weekend and I do not understand very well the process, i thought it was install it an go.
thx
You can program it right in the car, I have mine hid down under the left kick plate. It's easy and you can set your own temp parameters if you're using a 190 therm and switch.
You'll know if it's programmed right just by watching the gauge as it warms up. If it doesn't light up like you expect. Change it.
Good Luck It's a good mod.

Juan, Just install the unit 1st. Cahnces are you'll be fine. Follow Modifry's wiring instructions, they are pretty straight forward.
The car I was having problems with has another ground loop issue causing really strange gauge operation.

I installed today and got the 3 bars. but reading the instruction agian said that it comes preseted in a different scale as honda uses!!
acording to the instrcution 7 bars means 270 F while in Honda scale is 4 bars?
Every time I read the instruction I get more confused.

I've been able to get the gauge to work to a resonable amount without the need for additional hardware. It is no way near as good as Modifry's hardware solution.

Yesterday I took out my S and drove a bit. I have not updated anything just tap the cables and run, I got 3 bars 95% of the time and some time 4 bars for a fews seconds (2 seconds) and then back to 3
The situation where I got 4 bars is during a small traffic jam and inside the parking elevator.
BTW I am turbo.

The car I'm working on has had several issues that are keeping the module from working properly. When I posted previously, I has only ran the car untill 160 deg or so. The gauge working fine untill that temp. After running any longer, the ECT signal to the module is erratic. (rapidly changing from 400mv all the way to 35mv)
When the cooling fan cycles, the ECT signal drops 200mv. This is a huge drop on a .600mv (approx) operating range. The wideband is also inaccurate with the fan on.
It's looking like a ground loop issue, but there are still several variables.
Check your EMS ECT cal tables, to verify your cal's match Modifry's supplied ECT module programming.
Seperate the 2 ground wires from the module, don't ground them in the same location.

i believe i have the same issue...
I am using EMS 1012, with modifry's ECT module (says AP1, purchased in June 06). i also have a 5' frogs harness to move the ECU behind the rear seat. I have both grounds tapped to B20 on harness.
when driving the car, the temp gauge barely moves up past 1 bar... then suddenly the temp gauge spikes up to red! :bandhead: WTF
I pull over, pop the hood, the engine appears to be at normal operating temp. Coolant is still in the reservior and it is not boiling.
I get back into the car, start it back up and it is back at 1 bar... start driving again, 55mph on the highway, and the temp spikes up again... i let it sit at this state for a while and the temp gauge drops back down to 1 bar.
i did not have my laptop handy to monitor the EMS, but i figure it was the ECT module. I finish the drive and the temp gauge saw 1 bar, 3 bars, and max temp throughout the drive...
I'm not electronic savvy, should i seperate the grounds? and ground them to the chassis instead of the ECU harness?
Any help is appreciated in fixing this problem.
Thx
