Alarm keeps going off randomly
I have an 02 and I have the stock POS alarm. My alarm keeps going off randomly to the point where its making me very upset as it goes off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. No, there are no cats around, it also happens in the middle of plain daylight.
I did adjusted the know on the black box more towards the minimum side so right now its in the middle. I dont want to turn it all the way down. I like that the alarm gets triggered when I kick the tire for obvious reasons.
Anyone elses going off like mine?

My wife has an Acura TL that occcasionaly does the same thing. Typically happens in the middle of the night (the car is garaged). We found that if the car is locked with the remote, the alarm won't go off for no reason. Do you lock your car?

My OEM alarm has never done this, but perhaps this info will help.
It is supposedly possible to recall the what set off the last alarm. They call it a "Last Tripped Sensor Recall" in the alarm manual.
To do a recall -
1 - Sit inside the vehicle. All the doors and trunk must be closed. With the ignition key out of the ignition, press and hold the Disarm/Valet switch on the dash.
2 - Press the "LOCK" button and then the "UNLOCK" button of the remote control transmitter. (The lock button must be pressed within 3 seconds of pressing the Disarm/Valet switch)
3 - Release the Disarm/Valet Switch. The Status LED will indicate the last tripped sensor.
Status LED # of flashes
1 - Door
2 - Trunk
3 - System Switches
4 - Glass Breakage
5 - Hood
This method should allow you to find the last stored alarm.
If you think about it immediately when you shut the alarm off you can also just press the Disarm/Valet Switch 3 times in 5 seconds after the system was disarmed. The indicator is reset when the system is re-armed or the ignition key is inserted. In which case use the method listed above.
Hopefully this will at least narrow things down.

I tried this but its not working for me, this is the part:
1 - Sit inside the vehicle. All the doors and trunk must be closed. With the ignition key out of the ignition, press and hold the Disarm/Valet switch on the dash
Well, as soon as you press and hold the valet switch, the alarm will shut off, I get the usual 2 honks and the light is now steady. So I end up with no blinking lights.
It's too late for me to mess with the alarm this evening. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I wouldn't think the alarm should be going off during this process. Just pushing and holding the valet switch shouldn't make the alarm go off. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow.

My aftermarket would do this once in a blue moon for the hood pin. The solution was to tie a 10k resistor from power to the hood pin wire. From the looks of it, Clifford left their inputs "floating", which is something that should NEVER be done in a design. It was "floating right around the area of "Set the alarm off now", so just the right amount of electrical noise would trip it beyond that threshold and set off the alarm.

What i said was that when you push the valet switch, it shuts off the alarm, not go off. I dont know if its different in other people's car, but in my car even if you dont have the ignition on, you can still shut off the alarm by pressing and holding the valet switch.

That really sucks! I sure wouldn't want my alarm to be able to be turned off by hitting the valet switch with the key out of the ignition - it is sort of hidden, but not very well.
Sure sounds to me like something is really messed up in your alarm unit. I suppose you could buy a new Honda one and just stick it in there and hope that it is the control unit. However if it is something else you'd just be wasting your money.
Another tact would be to just follow the installation instructions in reverse and yank the whole thing and go aftermarket. I'd want to be the one pulling the old unit out just so that I'd know that everything was put back the way it should be. However, I don't know how all of the computers in the car would take this sort of thing - I'd guess you'd have to re-introduce your original remotes to the car.
This is definitely out of my league! Any electrical engineers out there?
