Default alarm systems

I'm looking to get a new alarm system . I'm debating between either a Clifford or viper system . I know they are both made by the same company and the Clifford looks better in my opinion but besides that is there really any difference ?? Which one do you guys have experience with or will choose ??

Anything from Directed Electronics is going to be a pretty solid unit.

Don't skip the proximity sensor and tilt sensors. Alarms only come with shock sensors right outta the box. All this is good for is detecting when someone hits your car, kicks it, or breaks a window. Even window breakage won't trigger the shock sensor in some cases.

I have the Python 991 which is the same as the Viper 5901 and Clifford 20.7. Great unit except the main two-way remote has a rechargeable battery that doesn't last long enough. I feel like I have to constantly charge it.
They are all DEI so it all comes down to remote design.

Personally have a compustar 2w900fm. It does the job and it was signifcantly cheaper than the viper.

Proximity sensors are great in theory but the one I had installed was a giant pain. It kept sending false alarms so I ended up taking it out.

Although I do hear great things about the DEI 508D proximity sensor. Supposed to cut down on those false alarms significantly.

Wouldnt the shock sensor be triggered by someone trying to tow your car? Also I always leave my tires turned all the way in one direction to make towing a little more inconvenient

Any sensors you put should be properly adjusted. Proximity or shock .. setting the correctly will not give false alarms. I used to do installs many years ago and always stuck with anything by DEI.
