Default alipne 9855 and 865B installed.. Hardwired / no IR

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that 2 weeks ago i installed the new alpine 9855 HU. I am very happy with it. I wanted to hardwire the hu (it has a jack for dash controls) instead of using an IR device... so i ordered the alpine 865B european harness. (had to get this from london) Anyway it arrived today and i am happy to say that it is installed and works perfect. I am very pleased that the system is now working with the dash controls and it was very easy.

The only problem that i had is that the 865B has thress plugs on it and is made to be a plug and play install. The first plug plug goes into the factory s2000 radio harness, the 2nd plug into the Head unit and the third plug is a the remote plug that also plugs into the head unit. Unfortunately the newer alpine (9855) deck has a smaller main connector (the one that all the power wires and speaker wires connect to) so i had to use the connector that came with the deck and cut of the deck connector off the 865B harness and of coarse connect the wires together.

No big deal and it works great.

thanks

tom

Awesome news! It's about time Alpine took care of this in the US.

I ordered my 9855 and I'm waiting anxiously for it to come in. I also have this Alpine Euro Dash interface. I'm glad to hear it works. Sad that I need to operate on the harness though.

Was there any truth to the rumors swirling that the operations of the buttons could be customized on the new units?

Keith,

I don't believe that the operation of the buttons can be customized. If they can .. then i certainly haven't figured it out yet. However they do work exactly as they would with the stock HU. Please let me know if you find something else out.

Tom,

On my European head unit the CH button seeks through FM. Is that what its doing on yours or is it moving from Preset to Preset?

one more question, how were you able to get a hold of the adapter? Did you order through a UK distributor or throught Alpine USA.

Thanks,
Kev

best i know Kev, this does NOT work for all Alpine head units. as i understand it, this requires a hardwire remote input into the HU. this was an option on some much older Alpine HU's and some high end units several years ago.

as far as i know, it is a brand new option w/ the 9855 and (possibly) this new generation of HU's.

before you buy into it, double check and make sure any Alpine HU you plan to use has a HARDWIRE remote input.

Yes, the European models have had this constantly on all the same models. There is a jack in the back for the remote in.

It always made me wonder if the same circuitry was on the U.S. models, with solder pads inside the case but no jack. All the models for '04 were identical, except the Euro models had "R" or something on the model number to indicate the jack on the back.

I can't believe they would make different internals for all those models, so something tells me my 9833 has the vacant pads inside. But I have no desire to tear it apart at this point...
