Default TO the ALL KNOWING ELECTRONICS GURU"S

OK, I've decided to upgrade from the factory system. I do have the Lucid rear panels with Kenwood something-or-others in them. Anyway, I'm not looking to win any contests or have the most speakers or see how loud I can get it, or brake the bank either. Just a nice upgrade from OEM. I dont know alot about the aftermarket stuff, just enough to get me in trouble. I wont be attempting to install it myself.

What I have enroute to me is an Alpine 9886 HU, an Alpine PDX-2.150 Amp, the Modifry goodies came today. I'm 90% leaning towards the Boston Acoustics Pro60's for the doors.

What I dont know is what I should put behind the seats. I'm not running subwoofers or anything, so I figured since I have the Pro's in the doors I could just put something like The Boston Acoustics SX65 back there. They might not add anything, but they certainly wouldnt take anything away from the system either.

I'd like to keep the focus of the feedback or any help anyone has on what to put behind the seats. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Brandon

I'm hardly all-knowing, but I'd just use the Kenwoods you've already got.
1st, your choices are limited because the magnet diameter can't be too big
and still fit
2nd, as you've only bought a 2-channel amp, you'll need to power them
off the headunit anyway, so they'll have much less power than the fronts,
and will only serve as rear fill (which is fine, but I doubt you'll notice much
difference between speakers).

True, I figured I'd run 1 channel for each side. Thanks for the input.

I think 1 ch per side is a bad idea...even running off the HU, the rears will need the fader moved to the front for better staging. You'll lose this feature if you go 1 ch per side. (front and rear)

Ok, this sounds logical, but you really didnt give me a solution. Would it be better to instead run the fronts on 1 channel and the rears on 1 channel?

Again, I know nothing about Amps, never owned one or know how they work. I've done research, searched and read the threads, but that doesnt really mean I understand what I read.

With my initial setup, 1 side powered by 1 channel, why would the rear get less power than the front? I guess I dont quite understand the power distribution.

Maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong. If I have an Amp that puts out 150 watts, is that 150 watts per channel? And is that in ADDITION to the 50 watts per channel of the HU?

Thanks for your patience

As OTH reccomended:
Use your 2 Channel amp to power your front left and right speakers.

Use the Rear Speaker outputs on your HU to power the rear speakers. I'd use the Kenwoods and see how it sounds for you. You can always sell them and upgrade if you are not happy with the results.

You could certainly hook up your amp as you described, and use your amp to power the front AND rear speakers, but again....you lose the ability to fade the rear speakers. If you are looking for maximum loudness...then fine, but I prefer to have the rears faded down to so the sound stage is infront of me as much as possible.

As it happens, I have mine set up this way.....
4 CH amp: 2 channels for the front, 2 bridged for the sub, and the rears running off the HU.

Anyway...there is no right answer, in the end it is entirely based on your ear. Try both configurations....pick the one you like best. Just start with what you have...no need to buy anything else.......yet.

Thanks for your input.

Would it be better to use 1 channel for the fronts and 1 channel for the rears. Wouldnt this keep the fader controls?

This will probably be the route I'll take

Ok, from a power standpoint, assuming I'm going to just run the amp with the front speakers........which specs would be better to go with, or would either work.

Amp is 150 watts (not sure what the RMS is) 4ohms

Speaker A:
80 watts RMS-220 watts peak, 4ohms

Speaker B:
Rated RMS power handling 125, watts 3ohms

Nope....bad idea...very bad. Stereo separation would be front to back
