Default Alpine 103bt

Does anybody if this unit fit well with the S. I am looking to buy this and don't care for the steering control.

Do I need a standard harness for plug and play? Also, it is okay to run the constant power line using the factory cable?

In the other cars, I reuse the factory wire for the constant wire.

Fits well. I have the 103EBT. I also didn't care much about the steering controls. It's Parrot bluetooth so speech quality is great. Better than in the BMW standard BT car kits. You can get a harness - it's the same as other Hondas pin-outs if you aren't using the steering controls. I will post further when I have more time. Here is a link to my installation: http://www.hondaowners.co.za/forum/v...hp?f=17&t=5162 it has a pic illuminated at night to give you an idea of integration. Hope that helped

No idea tbh. We get the Europe/Middle East/Africa Alpine models, so you could be right! It looks identical to the one at the Crutchfield site.

Yes. It's a local brand: Reference Audio. It's 95w RMS x 4. I have the Type R 6.5" splits which are running off 2 channels and a Polk Audio 8" footwell sub running off of the other 2 bridged. Sub is removable for track days and if I have a tall passenger. 98% of the time I drive alone or with my fiance who fits fine with it in place

So are you running the rear channels using the headunit?

Nope - Head unit's internal amp is off, although it's pretty straightforward to wire them to the HU if you want to. I don't have the roll hoop speakers connected at all. Just the type R comps.

I was thinking of powering the front with an amp. Then use the headunit to power the rear.

Then run a second amp to power the sub.

But after reading the manual i got more confused. Since it did not have a sub preamp out, it says to use the rear preamp. From the manual, it says no output of the rear if the sub control is on.

I guess I can always use a splitter.

Mine is set up with the sub level control

Fortunately for you, if you do this it only affects the pre-outs and you are still able to use the HU internal amp to power the small speakers in the head-rest. I tried this briefly but the results were disappointing (completely overpowered by the Type R's and they muddled the sound. Distorted easily as well) so I just turned the internal amp off completely.

Your plan to run the sub and fronts off an amp and the rears off the HU is completely do-able.

I was realistic about the sub in my S and wanted to maintain some practicality as well so I went for a footwell 8" and a single amp for the whole system - I knew I'd never get the same SQ in a roadster as I did in my other cars and it would simply cost too much for incremental improvements.

The sub is very musical (as are most good quality 8's to be honest), but doesn't dominate like a 12 would. I mean your mirrors will vibrate but they won't threaten to fall off I think it was a good match to the Type R's at the end and met my needs. That said, you still feel the impact of the sub at highway speeds in the cabin wheras I've read of people complaining that their 12's are lost at highway speed.
