Default Alpine 61/2 Components Don't Fit!!!!

Yesterday I was planning on having my Alpine components installed-----needless to say the speakers won't fit. The magnet is too deep and w/ any modification the speaker would prevent the door panel from being fitted on the door. I sent back the 61/2's and exchanged for the 51/4 ones. The installer said they should work. Hopefully they will !!! I plan on having the tweeter mounted in front of the speaker behind the door panel..

You can use a ring made out of MDF to be a spacer to fit much larger speakers.

Those must be some very deep speakers... My speakers have a total mounting depth of 80mm. I managed to squeeze them in with a 3/4 inch MDF. But I had to cut out the little ring on the door panel... (The lower lip of the speaker grill extrudes about 3 mm inward and was preventing the door panel from clipping in)

Alpine's 6.5" driver with the deepest mounting depth is 68.5mm... My Dynaudio 160 (7") woofer (which MikeS2K has as well) and Goldtrom's woofers have mounting sepths deeper...

Maybe try the 6.5" again but with a mounting ring...

The problem was that the magnet was hitting the window when it was down, so the installer said he could make a trim ring but could n't guarentee the fit when the door panel was placed back on---so he suggested going w/ a 51/4 size component. I figured why go thru all that just for a 6 1/2 speake??? Well I'll see what happens when I get in the 5 1/4 ones Do you think I had a DUMBASS installer? He worked at a reputable Car Audio Store.
