I assume you mean the 9855? Crutchfield is saying 4/15/05, but several people on Ebay are selling now.

I have it already. Works great ... The touchpad can be annoying at first until you get used to it.

Searching for a particular song or artist on the iPod still sucks. Don't know why they couldn't do an artist search, then give you a choice of A-Z or even 6 choices breaking down the alphabet and then let you scroll through just those letters.

I've unfortunately never owned an older Alpine model, so I don't know how the 9835 for example works.

The menus that have 6 icons, and you press the touchpad to select an icon is extremely easy to use. The menus where you have to scroll using the touchpad is kind of frustrating at times, it would have been nice if you could have used the up/down buttons or the knob to select stuff from those type of menus too. It isn't terrible, it just isn't quite as accurate when you're gliding your finger across it.

The thing is, I'm not playing with the menus that much ... So after I'm done setting everything up, its real easy to do everything.

I am kind of annoyed that I don't think the head unit remembers what playlist I've chosen on the iPod after I disconnect the iPod from the head unit. It also doesn't seem to remember that I set it to play the playlist on random.

Overall though, like I said, I'm happy with the unit.

Ive had mine since April 2nd. The glide touch is a bit finicky. but afte you get used to it, you can do searches pretty quickly.
