Red face Alpine 9885 vs. 9857

Hey everyone I am getting ready to get an alpine deck to replace my stock HU. I saw the post about the install of the 9885 and did some research but the 9885 looks relatively new to the market. The 9885 can be had for around $240 where the 9857 is more expensive. the 9885 also has the bio lite display. My future plans for my system are the following:

either Alpine 9857 or 9885
DCI (does it work with 9885 ?????)
full speed ipod cable
Infinity Kappa perfect 6.1 (doors)
either s-pods or speakers in rear panels- Infinity Kappa perfect 5.1 (rear)
amp to run component speakers?? (recomendation?)

Thanks in advance for your help on this!

ENTHRALLED-Is your amp hooked up to your sub only or to one of the pairs of speakers.

9885 is the 2007 replacement for the 9857. Spec wise they look the same to me. I just bought one and should have it here on Wednesday. FYI Modifry updated his list of wired DCI support and the 9885 is on the 2007 updated list. I bought his wired DCI and harness to go with my new HU.

those of you with the 9857. Can you control the HU from the control console like volume and channel and mute button?

I have the 9857 and it's great. Yes you can control all that with the DCI interface.

They have the 9885 at the local stereo shops and Best Buy. It just doesn't look as good to me. That red backlight sucks. The only thing I kind of like about it is that there is a crossover option. I think they took out some stuff too so that's prolly why it's cheaper. The two sound field options after BBE weren't there.

The text display seems the same.

Another difference I read about was support for AAC files but almost nobody uses that.

I've had my 9885 for about a month now, and I love it.

No complaints whatsoever. Hell of a unit for the price.
