Update:

The Blackbird performed well on our trip from Sturbridge to Pittsburgh. The volume of the voice commands at the highest volume level were still a little under power when you have the stereo on. There were not glitches on the way down. The size of the screen is not an issue and easy to use. It works well even in direct sun light. I just wish alpine had a way to intergrate it with their non-flip screen headunits. I'm sure they are working on it because it would take care of the only problem I have to date which is the volume of the directions when you are listening to your stereo.

cool -- no need for FM modulation then... you can just go into an Aux input.

and... you could easily add a powered speaker, and locate said speaker close to the driver's ear (aka behind the headrest, etc.).

glad to hear it performed well.

now i need to decide on whether to use the PDA or get something like this... the PDA is an ok option, but it will require a lot more misc. wiring, likely a remote GPS unit, and probably won't be any louder.
