Alpine Help
Hey guys/gals-
I finally broke down and bought an iPod. I now need an interface for my Alpine 7995 HU. The KCA-420i seems to be the only real alternative (want control via HU). I have a few questions that I have not been able to 100% answer.
1. I have XM Sat. Radio hooked up via Ai-Net currently, and would like to retain that service. What will I need to split the Ai-Net input between the 2 inputs?
2. I researched and came up with the KCA-410c. Its like $150 in addition to the iPod adapter. Is this unit necessary, or is there just a simply Y-splitter that I can use (as I do not need the additional inputs)?
3. Can anyone hook me up with a deal on this? (Sponsors....*cough* *cough* *Darkknight* *cough* *cough*)
Thanks
John

I have done some more research, and I dont think I need the 410c. Here is what I found on crutchfield.com:
The editor of the site just beneath it said:
I think I would have needed the 410c had my XM tuner been the Alpine version, as I do not believe it has an Ai-Net passthrough.
I am ordering the 420i today.....will post results.
........on a side note........My iPod is a 60G video. I noticed that it has a "TV Out" option in the "Video Settings" menu. Is there a way to hook the iPod up to a screen? Would one of the new DVD Alpine head units (with video processing capability) be able to access the iPod videos via the Full Speed connection? That would be the ultimate budget video solution......buy a DVD HU and a screen and have 60G of video on tap!
Thanks
John
This unit can pass thru AI-Net signals. If you have the KCA-420i IPOD unit and want to add XM, you do not need to add the KCA-410c. This unit will connect to your Alpine SAT Ready deck and then your KCA-420i will connect to it. I found this out after pounding Alpine and TERK for a straight answer on this issue. I still ordered it from Crutchfield, but I let the Sales Rep know that his info on this product was false. The need to change the Features TAB to say Pass Thru- YES.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: This customer is correct, and we have changed our database to reflect this.]
