Default Alpine HU steering controls

Just got back from CES. All 2005 Alpine swing face HUs will have optional steering controls. Hopefully this will make them compatible with our dash controls.

i tried it and my HU won't control the car... at all. I've got an alpine and i can turn my knob a whole bunch. the wheels, still strait. I am so glad i wasn't moving when i tried this.

i'm having trouble resisting temptation tonight.

oh, i apologize, i didn't know that French was your first language. My French is worse than your English, this much we know is true. After my smart/dumb ass post i became curious:

is it a remote that attaches to the steering wheel? When you say steering controls, i'm not sure what you mean.

We CAN use the Alpine HU's with our dash controls BTW. It just takes a special wiring harness. see the sticky keeping the dash controls.

Hehe, no need to apologize, what you said was funny

Direct quote from Alpine :This unit is OEM Steering Remote Ready so you can still control your head unit conveniently from your steering wheel. (3rd party adaptor required).

So hopefully an adaptor for the S will exist.

And yes I know of the options for keeping dash controls, but this, it seems to me, would simplify everything.

In a Lexus, or MB I've seen steering wheel controls galore. If the new Alpines will interface with these stock controls, it should also interface with dash mounted controls in the S.

cool.

good call Pdc, keep us posted.

The "3rd party adapter required" doesn't sound promising. And the big question is "when?". It took them nearly a year to release the iPOD interface.

Well I decided to call Alpine directly, and they said the new 2005 units should be available 2nd quarter this year (March hopefully). I was also told that the adaptors should be available at the same time and that they expect them to made for all models. In the case they wouldn't, a universal model will be available.

Europe had this type of HU available rather than the remote contolled ones we have and there the adaptor for the S existed. Someone from the UK had posted the part number for the adaptor here but I can't find the thread now.

Guess we'll know for sure in a couple of months.

BTW at least one HU that has this function is already on the Alpine web site, model #CDA-9851. I can't direct link to it, but you can find it easily here: http://www.alpine-usa.com/

In the past, the only Alpine HU that worked with S2000 dash controls was the European HU, which will work in the US as long as you don't intend to listen to the radio (different frequencies). And that explains why you don't hear anybody going that route.

Hopefully the new adapter will have decent functionality and not be overpriced.
