What do you guys think of these two head units? Do you have any comments or could tell be the pros and cons you have encountered using them?

I have a 9887. The best thing about it is the Imprint facility, although you'll need the kit to set this up with (or find a dealer that will do it for you).

If you have a lot of songs on your iPod, it can be a pain to find them, unless you are well organised with your playlists. the iDA units are much easier to use in this regard.

If you want to listen to CDs or MP3s burnt onto CDs, then the 9887 will probably sound better.

^^What he said. I have the iDA-x303 and love it. I haven't burned a cd since I got my iPod. The iDA's also have imprint capability, but you have to get the chip/kit.

It all depends on whether or not you want to play cd's - that's the main difference from what I can tell. I also believe the 305S has better capability with iPhones.

Which is the best?
As with any question of "best", depends on your preferences more than just a bit. If it were me and I was buying right now I'd get an IDA series but that's mainly because I only use my iPod with my CDA-9886 and I've never used the CD deck.

Yea sorry about that, I did do a search but couldn't find a topic directly comparing these two headunits. I know their both good but I'd like to have known how they compared to one another.

I have a 9887 and it's a solid headunit. Considering though I have an external amp driving the front speakers, and practically never listen to cd's (I have an ipod controlled via the headunit), the x305 would probably be the better choice strictly off features. However, I opted for having a cd player, and personally I think the x305 is so damn ugly (Why not have a larger screen?!), so the 9887 was the choice for me.

It's all personal preference imo.

I used to have the 9886 and loved it - then moved up to the iDa-x305s. Really like the deck but the glare on this screen is a real annoyance - I'm looking at selling mine and getting into the x303 instead. If THAT doesn't work out any better - I'm going for the CDA 117 and calling it a day.

I have a CDA deck and in six years, I've played maybe 10 CDs - I could easily do without it and just get an IDA for its improved iPod interface.
