two things to consider
1. Most of the ppl that I know do not use CDs when they can control iPods directly from the HU
2. If you do toss your S2k around, CDs are just impratical(scratch from mechanical parts or over worked mechanical parts)

My 9887 produces better sound using iPod playing MP3s with Imprint engaged than it does playing CDs without Imprint engaged.
If you are interested in that aspect of things, then the 9887 is worth considering.
You can, of course, get the Imprint as an add-on to the 305, but it'll work out a fair bit more expensive.
