So I don't understand why so many people give up their trunk and spare tire in order to upgrade the stereo. Here's my install which allows me to keep most of the trunk and still have great sound! Installed by Z Auto Sound in San Jose.
Amp: Alpine MRV-F545
Speakers: Morel Dotech MKII
Sub: Elemental Designs 10" 11Ov.2
Head Unit: Alpine 9851
Ipod Adapter: Alpine KCA-420i
The sub box by William Laurent at azcartoys.com is awesome. Fits perfectly and sounds great.
Trickiest part was trying to fit the large Alpine amp somewhere without sacrificing the usability of the trunk. Mounted on a board and then mounted the board to the left of the spare. Now it had to overlap the cover for the spare which makes it impossible to remove the spare - but, the solution is to keep a phillips screwdriver in the car, allowing me to temporarily remove the amp to slide it aside to get to the spare. Problem solved.
dougie, question. Where you have your amp mounted, is it sturdy? I was thinking about moving my amp to that location as well. HiFi buys put it up under the convertible tray and my amp is not only having thermal issues under there, but also the tray is rattling against the metal of the amp and making an awful rattling noise when the bass hits. I asked the guys at HiFi if they could move it to that location and they said that it wasn't sturdy enough to hold the amp securely when going around corners fast, hitting bumps, etc... If that's true, how did you reinforce this area?
Nice...I was going to install my Infinity amp in an identical location, but it was about 1" too big :egad:. The next amp (Memphis or JL) will be like that, if it will not fit under driver's seat!
here is my install....not much trunk space given up. Stuff can still sit on the amp, and the tool well was pretty much useless anyhow because of its shape. Now the trunk is more rectangular.
