Is it possible to play an ipod thru a Alpine 9851, or do you need a auxilary input.

You'll have to cut me some slack here, im 51 and just discovered that i can put all

my CDs on an I pod.

You can with an adapter. I believe Alpine's Ai-Net adapter wire ends in RCAs, which you can then connect to an RCA to 1/8 stereo adapter and plug that into your iPod, or go with Alpine's KCA iPod adapter that plugs into the HU and iPod and also powers the iPod and lets you control the iPod from the HU.

Yup - get the Ai-Net adapter and it works fine. I have one on my Alpine 9851 HU and had the harness installed in the console glovebox.

I tend to use Apple Lossless on importing music so I don't lose sound quality, so I certainly can't get my 1100+ CDs into mine, but I do like being able to carry far more hours of music than I can listen to most of the time.
