Alpine steering wheel input
Andy -
I have a Phatbox coming, arriving probably in about two weeks. This has 60 gigs of space, so I'll have to get the set-up and navigation figured out.
I'll probably post my experiences in this forum. Hopefully I'll be using smilies and not frownies!
Are you using MP3 on CD-R, or are you using a hard disk unit? The Phatbox forum has quite a bit of commentary on organization, but I think nobody has a "perfect" solution.

I have an MP3 HU too (cheap Sony for now, but thinking about a KEG/Kenwood combo) so I understand the navigation issue. For simple folder/song navigating both the DCI and DJ's mod will do the basics. The DCI is less money and easier to install, DJ's mod has an advantage with the 5-way MODE button, and I think he can do custom mapping of the controls if you want a special function on one of the buttons.
Part of the problem in using the S2000 factory dash controls is there are only 4 buttons (you can't count mute), which really limits your control capability. DJ gets around that by installing a different switch in place of the MODE button; with the DCI we do combination-buttons to get extra functions.
I've thought about making an adapter to take an after-market steering wheel remote (like this Blaupunkt unit) and convert the Blaupunkt signals to other brand HU signals. It has 8 or 10 distinct buttons that could be mapped to functions not covered by the DCI or DJ's mod.
The obvious problem is that it would be expensive to buy the Blaupunkt unit for $60 and my custom converter for another $75-$100. The cool part is that it would give you 15 to 20 functions between the dash controls and the steering wheel control. Can you remember that many buttons?
