Going to the batt on alpine decks is a joke. If your going to slap a 50+ watt x 4 sticker on the head unit and box (bullshit), You cannot make that kind of power with a 18 gauge normal power wire. So to trick the people that are a little smarter than your average joe they increased the size of the power wire and tell you to run it to the batt. Starting next year alpine along with several other major electronics companys are going to have real and certified power ratings. Alpine next year will have about 15 watts a channel (real power) same as they do now. The amp thats inside of a head unit is about the size of 3 ciggarettes, Its not going to produce 200+ watts unless a bolt of lightning hits it.

To many know it all's here for me....I must not know what I'm talking about becuase I've only been installing car stereos for about 9yrs or so... If the manufacture says to do something you would think that maybe just maybe they have a reason why... But you guys seem to have fixed the problem for this guy so I'll just shut up..

I'm saying that if the manufacture says to go directly to the battery then maybe you should.

Oh and if you can find a HU could put out 60w rms then I'll take 2 and I'll have no need for an amp That is a bunch of BS, and I agree with everyone on that point. However maybe Alpine as another reason for going to the battery other then the internal amp.?. Maybe to keep the power lead away from the wiring hell that runs under the cars dash.

They have been making car audio for a while now and have done pretty well really.

I posted that, and reread your post, and noticed that you werent arguing with me, but with the guys who who didnt use the batt lead. I misread your post the first time...my apologies. Honestly, I dont even know what the hell everyone is talking about. I used a wire harness, plugged it right it, and thats it. I have no idea what this "power wire" everyone is referering too.

You know... I look like I'm talking to myself now...

If you look at the install directions for your alpine you'll see that it says to connect the main power lead to the battery...

I pay my s2000 car payments by installing alpine decks. I work for a company called Soundwaves out of Dayton Ohio. We have Alpine reps come in and train us yearly. I've been installing professionally since 1993. Just tellin it how it is.
