Well next time you see those reps ask them why the hell are the instructions even in the box if they are a lie?

Well.....darknight has been doing it since he was 9, bobby does it professionally.....and I have been doing this for about 7 years. I used a harness from circuit city and my deck runs fine. Thats all I care about. I really really really really dont see any reason to have a direct lead to the battery for a 40 watt head unit. Im not arguing that alpine says run a lead to the battery directly.......I just cant justify the labor.

all my point was, is that he clearly stated that he was using 100% outboard amps for his sound. you just don't NEED heavy gauge power wire to supply a preamp and CD player.

now, MAYBE if he were using the amplifier... BUT he isn't.

Yes but maybe they want you to go directly to the battery for another reason...

i can't imagine what that reason could be... not saying that i can imagine all reasons, but for them to need it and no one else, it would have to be fairly esoteric imo.

my vote remains that this is for marketing most likely, and possibly to maybe milk a little more from the inboard amp.

Well......im not 100% sure on what you mean, but your ground wire should be as thick (not more not less) than your power wire.

The ground wire that goes from your battery to the car. Stock it's only 8GA.... Replace it with 4GA.

Well, the problem presented it's own solution last night... bad ground. The terminal that I used on the 4-gauge ground wire (where I attached it to the car) developed a crack in it and was coming apart. I just went and got a new terminal and all is working well now. That particular ground lead was over 6 years old and this is the 4th car that I it has been in... probably just vibration fatigue caused it to fail.
