I'm asking around trying to see if anyone has mounted an amp over the fuel filler neck, and if so, how they have gone about doing it. I was thinkingof glassing up a tray to fit under there, but due to the tight working conditions this may or may not be feasible...
I installed a Boston GT40 above the gas tank/filler neck.
The amp is mounted on 1/4" plywood cut to fit the space and
assure good airflow, and does not move a bit even though
the rack is not bolted in.

Bringing this back from the dead i doing some research into this amp install location, notice yours (oth) if your still out there and can hear me in all this time have you experience over heatting issues? it looks preatty tight, and you didn't remove the top tray, any feed back on this? thanks
I;ll be re doing my system soon and liked this location but just scared of getting too hot in there

the heat sink is on the (left) side, and the amp has a built-in cooling fan.
Other people have apparently successfully put the JL 300/4 there, as well
as the Alpine PDX which has the advantage of being class D so it runs
much cooler.
I'll also add that I probably don't drive my amp as hard as some people
out there do, being a (relatively) old f*rt.

cool it sure those like that amp fits like a glove in that space
my alpine does have a cooling fan as well but i don't see any kind of vents anywhere (besides those of the fan) who knows... oh well i'll give it a shoot when i get around it maybe i can add an external fan? i have a couple of those and see how that goes. space wise thats gots to be the best amp location on this car.

I am currently looking at this spot too. Seems like the best one I can find being I am not willing to lose my spare and I am too tall to mount any behind the seats.
If you remove the rear tray in the back, you have plenty of room. You dont have to sandwhich the amp in there any more.
Plus I made some holes in the rack to help air flow....dont know if it works or not, but i dont have overheating issues.
Could anyone please give some rough measurements that I can work with to make a rack like this myself? I want to put my amp in there as well so it's plenty out of the way.
If someone could provide the roughly rectangular piece of wood that is needed to start, I'll make the necessary trims myself based on the pics I see here.
I made a cardboard template to test fit. basic rectangle is 19" x 16"
though in the end I think I made the rack a little longer than 19" at the
right rear to wedge it in against the spare tire. Anyway, just cut out a
piece of cardboard, stick it in, cut away wherever you need clearance
(roll bar, filler neck, gas gauge sender) until you have what you want.
