Hi everyone, i was just wondering if any of you guys mount the amp behind either one of your front seats. I find it the best location if you have a medium sized amp. THis way, you still have sparetire (oh the feeling of security), and a lot of trunk space; not to mention easy access to the amp. I also have a Kicker L7 Solobaric Sub with slim truck box, which fits PERFECTLY in the tools compartment.
All in all, minimal trunk space was lost after the installation. Lemme know what u guys think.
i guess if you have a small enough amp then why not! i ran without a spare for over 5 years in my last car because my amp took up residence there and never a problem. fix a flat and free towing and i'm comfortable enough to ditch the spare.
I had Memphis 4-channel amp 16-MC2004 under the driver seat, I sold it last week. I have Boston Acoustic GT-24 mounted behind driver seat, below the rear panel.
If the amp dimensions are: 12"x8"x2.25" then it can be mounted under driver seat.
If the amp dimensions are: 18"x9"x2.5" then it can be mounted behind either seat. If the length is 16" or less, then the width can be a little more than 9" to be mounted behind the seats.
With a medium size amp, you can mount it vertically in the trunk next to the spare, allowing you to keep the spare with no problem.
Here's how I did my Alpine MRV-F545, relatively large amp.
If you mount behind the seat, you run the risk of exposing it to the elements.
I went with the wedge it in (it's a snug fit, but I would have used foam padding to snug it up more if it had any play).
As you can see to the left of the amp are my towel wrapped jack and tools (my crossovers for my s-pod components are under the jack and tools) which limit the movement in that direction, and the sparetire is pretty much locked down by the sparetire sub on the right.
I do LONG spirited twisties weekly and everything stays put. I do remove the amp and sparetire when I'm tracking altho I am sure it wouldn't move even in that environment.
