Default Amp out? head unit preouts Dead? How to tell?

In my dialy driver, I have A really old (but decent) sony es head unit, two decent amps, boston pro comonents, and a JL audio 10w3 sub. It sounded pretty good when everything was working well, but now pretty much nothing works.

The sub stopped working. I pushed in on the sub and it seemed kind of hard to move. I figured it was blown or frozen. I took it out of my car an put it in my garage.

Now my front speakers are not working. Nothing at all, either speaker. I checked all my wiring and they are all secure. The amp is getting a power light but there is no signal to the speakers.

My question is, how could I tell if the amp is faulty, or if it is the preouts in the head unit that are having issues?! I'm wondering if part of the sub issue is due to the head unit possibly crapping out. Right now I run the rear speakers only and this is a real pain!!! Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to test the preouts and amp are functional. Thanks.

if you want to test the amp you can hook up a walkman (or discman or mp3 player) to the rca inputs on the amp to test the amp.
