Where do you plan on putting that flat tire?
Flat tire will get wrapped in towel and go in cabbin. Any would be passengers will be left on the side of the road. No sense in giving up a small amount of peace of mind if I don't have to.

ditch the spare. it'll clean up your trunk a bit, and give you some room.
I see mostly everyone ditches the spare. But, how many of you drive your S2k as an everyday driver. I've been debating about doing this myself. Right now I don't have the spare in. It's one of those things where I drive the car everyday and if I get a flat, that would really stink. It's my only transportation right now. Should I keep the spare out for amp room? I keep going back and forth on my decisions.......

By the way, Nice amp rack. It looks good. Can't wait to see it in the car....

I carry fix a flat and a AAA card. that's my spare. changing a tire on an S2K is PIA anyway.

edit: she's a daily too.

Lets review the spare tire shall we...

1. If you get a flat in the rear you first need to jack up the front of the car and put the spare tire (if you can call it a spare) on the front.

2. Once you put the spare on the front you have to now jack up the back and put that front tire on the back.

3. Then you have to put the blown rear tire somewhere... if you have a passenger it has to go in the trunk... oh but wait you have a sub or amp rack in the tire well... so where are you going to put it???

The answer... no where... ditch the space because it a total POS anyway and and get the car towed, because the chances of whatever shop they bring your car to, actually having the tire you need in stock is unlikely

I agree, either get AAA or make sure your insurance co has an emergency roadside # (I have Geico). Fix-a-flat is good for a temp fix too as long as your didn't wreck your sidewall.

Sorry to highjack the thread. Looks good. Is that 1/2" MDF you used?

heh...

well, the other option is what i have set up. i have yet to field test it. (*knocks on wood*)

the biggest problem isn't keeping the spare, it's having storage available for the flat tire that comes off.

mine is a daily, and for now i continue to try and keep full function of the spare (just in case).

(these are WAY old pictures... i've done a quite few things since then (especially in cleaning up the 'rough' edges), but the foundation/fundamentals are the same)

the entire amp rack (including top) is less than 5" tall. it's close to 5" but just a tad under.

-in case of a flat. the spare comes out.
-there's a ton of slack in all the wires, which allows for the entire rack (amps + top) to be lifted and moved into where the spare tire resides.
-then the tools, etc come out and the flat tire goes in.
off i go...

will it look beautiful? no. heck i don't know 100% for sure if it will work. but i took extensive measurements when i made it all, and i test fit several major components for fit. as best i can tell, i CAN fit the system, sub, and a flat tire back there at the same time.

again, here's hoping i never field test.

I didnt use MDF I used ply sizes are 10mm thick on bottom which will sit on top of tools and the rest is 14mm thick, then some other bits of timber shaped and glued and screwed to hold.

To give it further support I poured PVA on the whole thing a few times, then it was filled and sanded and primed and then to finish black matt paint as I will be getting the whole boot re trimmed in black cloth.

I will never use the spare wheel but wanted to keep the car as orignal as possible for when it came to sell on as over here it seems standard spec cars sell better.

for the ever need of having a flat i have large tyre foam can which is plenty good enough for most puntures.

had a chance to borrow a fellow S2k's boot for a quick look at how this looked in the tool well picture needed more light but it fits in perfectly, once i get my car back i will take loads more pictures and have better light, i did try and fit sub enclosure but it was a bit tight and with it not being my boot i didnt want to try and force it in place, so a little more work and it will go in.
