Amplifier Clipping while engine is on
Just as the title suggests...
I came back from vacation and low and behold my components weren't putting out anything. I pop the trunk and take a look at the amp and it's clipping and in protect mode (it's an infinity referance series 2-channel amp). The system was running smoothly before I left... I tried to do a little preliminary troubleshooting so I put my input gains down to zero... I still didn't have anything coming out and the amp was still in protect mode. I turn the engine off and I find that the amp isn't in clipping/protect mode anymore so I adjust the gains accordingly and it seems everything is running normally.
Here's the deal and what I think it could be.
-I'm running a 1.2 farad cap in parallel to both amps(one for the sub and the other for the components). I think that when the engine is on it looks like this cap is firing constantly and is throwing my components' amp into protect mode. I don't know why it's doing this now as opposed to before I left on vacation but it seems that it may be.
So far that's my best guess. Either that or I have a connection problem.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Finally took the cap out. Solved nothing. Visually checked both fuses on the amp and they looked fine. My components still come through strong before turning the engine on and die out when the engine is fired up.
I found a couple things out though. After turning the engine off and back to "Accecories", or whatever inginition mode you want to call it, the voltage drops back down to about 12.5 volts but I still don't get my components back. The only way to get them back is to cold start it again after a few minutes of being completely off.
Dunno what to do here. I'm probably going to talk to Infinity tomorrow. It seems weird that as soon as it hits 14.5 volts the only amp that dies out is the one with the components.
I'll keep you posted.

i would try and switch the amp out. thats the most likely problem. it doesnt seem like the amp can handle the normal 14 volts. the car is 12 volts until it is started and than it becomes 14 volts due to the alternator charging.
ive been having some issues with my stereo as well and i wish you the best of luck

This is the part I'm not understanding... It worked before I left...
Right after my last post and looking for loose connections (which I think is now the case still ) I started her up and the system is sang beautifully. All I need to do is turn up the gain for the 12" and it will be right .
It seems to be an intermittent failure because it stopped working one last time "knock on wood" yesterday morning but it's in good order once again.
