Default Amps on trunk?

Would it be possible to mount amps on top of the trunk(inside obviously) and still pop it open. I have the heavy-duty springs installed for my OEM spoiler. The amps are 7 lbs. each and I'd have two of them up there. Thanks!

Besides the issue of adding a lot of weight to the lid - you also have to consider thermal issues.

Amps are primarily designed to be mounted horizontally or sometimes vertically - not inverted. You would also have to add a rack so that the heat rising (when trunk lid is closed) from the heat-sink would not cook your electronics

Amuse should make a vented carbon-fiber trunk to solve this! J/K! Good Point!

Sure it can be done, but the question is, would you really want to? Given the fact that it adds a lot of weight to the trunk, you're going to have problems keeping the trunk open. Also, the wires to the amp will have to be somewhat flexible at a point since the trunk opens and closes - you will have to hide them behind the vertical trunk panels and worry about them flexing over time.

I think instead I'll go with a 4-channel amp instead of two 2-channels. I won't get as much power to my subs with this setup, but I'll actually have room for it. I'm going to mount it next to the spare tire up against the back of the trunk. Any problems with this? I've seen it done, but I just want to make sure.
