Yeah I did that here: but at that point the 8.8 is better because it fills out the space more. If anything for the outer mount a taller screen could be used. Like a 9.5" or something. haven't found one though.
The 7.9" mounted from the front might allow the use of the radio door, which would be sick

I have the Wiring harness adapter all hooked up with the correct colors but no matter what I do I can’t get the controls to work. Does anyone have pictures of their wiring?

green/red of the car to the KEY1 of the radio. dont use key2 or key ground. the mute wont work unless you use a relay to flip the polarity.
I swapped displays with waveshare 7.9”, with screen motherboard relocation to make extra room for display ( it fit with minor stress on the screen ) I think with little sanding to the dashboard it will fit perfectly
