Antenna removal
I'm going to be taking a road trip out of town soon, and I was thinking of removing my radio antenna before the trip so I don't risk it getting stolen. Is it safe to have the screw area exposed? I will probably want to re-attach it later on, I don't normally listen to the radio anyways.
You could just take it off when you park.
Theoretically grime and crud would get all over the threads. As long as you clean it before re-installing I think you be OK. You would look silly while it's off, but be ok.

Picture this, he's driving down the road, and a Celica GT-S pulls up alongside him. He guns it assuming the Celica want's to race, but while he's paying attention to the Celica, two big hung Ford Excursions pull up behind him, and in front of him, with the Celica on the right, boxing him in the fast lane on the freeway. Then, a man wearing all black climbs up through the Celica's sunroof, and jumps from the Celica into his S2000. He unscrews the radio antenna. SuperDyu tries to swerve to force the guy off his trunklid, but to no avail. Apparently the guy has suction cups on his elbows and knees, holding him frimly to the little Honda. Then, the man in all black jumps off the S2000 and lands on the hood of the Excursion behind him, and all three vehicles let the S2000 go on it's merry way.
After catching up with traffic an hour or so later, he notices a Celica pull up alongside him, with his S2000 antenna mounted proudly as a trophy to his ricer theft.
Is that kinda what you're talking about Dave?
