Ya, I didn't say I was going to do it that way, lol. I'm just trying to avoid cutting into the dash.

there actually was someone who made it work, i think by cutting the dash underneath so that the screen would poke up into it..it looked a little rediculous, wouldn't recommend it

It doesn't sound like there is a good way in getting a pop up screen in our single din compartment without cutting. The only other alternative I can think of is maybe get one of those JVC headunit with a 3.5" screen as a compromise...even then I hear theres some modification to be done in order to get it to fit. (Its a bit larger than a normal single din cd player) Our cars aren't made for these equipments.

So whats the easiest way to mount a screen? I've considered the modifry bracket, if I can bend it straight to be visable from the passanger side as well.

I'm just super hesitant to do dash cutting =\

I understand, I'm the same way. I think the modifry mount would probably be the easiest to install, I'm sure you can bend it facing the passanger as needed. Even if you do make a mess of it, its a $15 metal plate rather than your dash. So not much harm done.

Well, if you are proficient with fiberglass molding, the easiest way is to make a bezel in the stock location like this:

Aside from that, if you arent using a screen that can control the whole system as in my case and need a head unit in the traditional spot, dash cutting is the best bet. I am working on getting a spare dash cut and a screen installed into it. Once that one is in my car, I will still have a spare dash when I take mine out. I am considering making another dash and then selling it pre-made then having the buyer send me their dash once they get the new one with screen. Might be a better option for those who want an in-dash screen but don't want the down time/hassle and price of a custom job done at a shop.

I'd be interested in that. Alternatively, I've been looking at threads like this one: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=495421 . Has anyone seen this setup in person? I'm trying to find out how far out it would stick to avoid it looking akward.

To keep playing devils advocate further, what if you got one of those single din flip-up screen units and cut a hole in the dash just for the headunit? Then it would flip up without a problem. In my head, it seems like it might look nice?

I might be intrested in this as well. How much would you charge for the precut dash?

Probably $500-$600 including a basic 7" touchscreen. I can't commit to any pricing yet as I haven't begun work on it yet and don't know if there will be any unforseen issues. Price could end up slightly higher or even lower. My dash will be the guinea pig so to speak. That touchscreen is more aimed at CarPC setups and I will most likely have the option to put in whatever screen you choose like an Alpine or whatever.

Buyers will have the option of paying a core deposit of whatever a new dash costs from Honda, I believe around $380, which they would get back once I recieve their stock dash, or they can send me their dash to be done first. Finally, for those who wish to retain a spare dash, the option will be offered to just pay for a new dash outright and keep their stock dash themselves.

If all this works out, I will obviously need to purchase a sponsorship here on S2ki to make it all legit.

With the Modifry mounting bracket, it does not stick out that far, and you can bend it back towards the dash. It will never look anything like OEM, though. It will always have the wires and just not a clean look, IMO.

Someone has done a single DIN flip up, but it was EXTREMELY custom. He modified the screen to slide down from the Convertible Air vent area. (Broke the unit open and modified the servos to change the motion, then mounted under the dash).

As far as getting a straight flip up in with out serious modification, not happening. It would hit this shifter when opening, it would hit the bottom of the dash/air vent area when opened, and you might put your fist through the screen.

I do like the double DIN setups, but in order to keep your air vents you pretty much have to relocate the SRS module (which is major, IMO).

Most stock look is actually a properly cut dash. That is how it was across the pond originally...

It all depends on what you are going for.... look vs. functionality.
