Default Anyone use Sony Stuff?

I am very interested in their 6.5" components, model 600HF or something. They drop right in the doors, and also the new 600x4 amp. Any good? I don't want to buy junk, just want to make sure everything will sound better than the stock stuff.

I have their 5150 5 channel amp right now. It works great and sounds very good. I have been finding that it overheats every now and then lately. It may be because I am pushing my Kicker L7 pretty hard with it so I don't think it's a design flaw. Overall I am happy with it, but I wish it wouldn't overheat. A built in fan would have been nice.

I've got those speakers. I'm no audiophile so I can't really give you a sound quality assessment other than that I'm happy w/ them. As to drop in installation, well they're almost drop in. I had to cut away some of the stock speaker basket to fit the 6 1/2's. I think Lucid offers some adapter rings that might illiminate the need for that. Also, for the tweeters, (I'm assuming you have the OEM tweeters?) you can either route out the existing tweeter "grill" or you can do like I did and install the Sony tweeters behind the factory "grill". To get them to fit you need to use a dremel tool to make two small indentations in the plastic of each tweeter so that they fit into the space used by the factory tweeter.

Just noticed the amp you specified. I've got that too. I know Sony isn't considered top-of-the-line car audio equipment, but I was able to get the features I wanted within my budget. I've had no problems w/ that amp. It's not overpowering by any stretch, but if you want something that'll supply enough power to hear the music clearly at highway speeds, it seems to work pretty well.

they make decent stuff. but you are paying for the brand name somewhat and i think there are a lot of budget amps out there (from people that only do car audio) that are a better value. what kind of budget are you working with? car audio is great there's something for every budget out there. and you don't have to buy junk, i'm not saying sony is junk, but there's just so much stuff out there.

and like jca said, there are few speakers that are a "direct" dropin, most of them require you to make an adaptor ring or buy the one from lucid to get enough clearance from the window mechanism

The thing is, I get Sony for cost through a buddy of mine. My budget is about $400 for amp and components.

To most people who are car audio enthusiasts, Sony is pretty close to the bottom of the barrel as far as car audio equipment quality, just above those best buy brands like jensen and lightning audio. (Except for their CDX-c90 head unit, which is about $500) Typically, for the same amount of money, there's a LOT better equipment you could buy, even with you getting them at cost. For that amount of money, I'd say take a look at Autotek, Jbl, or USAcoustics amps, which are a great deal for the price, and Crystal, JL Audio XR Series, or Alpine Type-Rs. You should be able to find deals for those speakers within your budget; the problem is they dont' sell those brands at bigger name electronic stores so you'll have to do some online shopping. If you dont' know much about car audio, you'll have to get them installed, but MUCH better quality for the price. Best Buy and Circuit City are like the devil to audio enthusiasts.

Do you mean 60w x 4? I doubt you'd be looking for 1200+ for each side of components

With a budget of $400, you could do a lot better than Sony...even bought at cost

For example...You can find a USX2100 and Cadence Neo's (or Focal Polyglass) for under $400 ...or if you want something really amazing, get a USX2150 and these
