I've heard ALPINE isn't that great, and besides their HU are FUGLY.

 

Uh...FUGLYness is subjective who told you that they're not of high quality?

 

Well, looks are subjective..If you don't like the design that much and it's that important to you, then don't get it. But Alpines are some of the best head units money can buy. I guess it's Circuit City's one saving grace...

 

From my personal experiece, Sony stuff sucks for the most part.

If you want to spend $400 on amp and components, get a set of MB Quart PSD 216 components ($220 shipped) and an Autotek SS350.2 (125x2 watts) amplifier.

 

Go with Alpine electronics e's. They have some of the best things for your ride.....Type-r stereo systems really work.
