Default AP2 crossover question

I have a question about installing new component speakers. I’ve done a lot of research, including reading the excellent thread at https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/483..._hl__crossover. In that thread, someone asked the same question but never received a definitive answer.

My question is simple: Does a 2004 AP2 have a built-in crossover? I installed a new Kenwood head unit last night (with the Modifry wired DCI), and I plan to install a set of Kicker 6.5” woofers and ¾” tweeters tonight. The Kicker components came with a crossover. However, if the AP2 already has a crossover (which seems logical, since the stock system has separate woofers/tweeters), should I install the crossover that came with the Kickers as well? I assume one should not install two sets of crossovers. One post suggests that the stock system does not have a crossover – just a resistor on the tweeter – so the crossover should be installed if installing new tweeters.

I apologize if this question is so bone-headed and basic that most people don’t even need to ask, but I haven’t installed a car stereo since high school.

Note that I am not using an amp; speakers are powered by the HU.

Thanks in advance.

The stock speakers don't have a proper crossover, they use filter capacitors to limit the frequencies sent to the speaker.

Thank you much for that prompt response.

get a pair of speaker adapter harnesses so you don't have to cut the factory wires, and install your crossovers in the door.
You'll need to run longer wires from these adapters to the crossover, and then wires from the crossover to the woofers and
tweeters.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered the system from Crutchfield, and they provided the speaker wiring harnesses.
