Audio Illiterate Needs Sub/Amp Advice
Hey guys, just a bit of background: Some years ago got a JBL teardrop subwoofer reallllly cheap from Circuit City. Finally got around to mounting in my Passat, used about 2 months before upgrading to JL Stealthbox. I was single then...the wife ain't gonna approve a stealthbox for the S right now. My plan is to install the JBL (which I had forgotten about) in the S.
It is a JBL GT800T, 8" speaker, 4 Ohms, recommended amp power 20-240W (continuous power handling 120W...no clue what that means). I'm considering an Alpine amp with the following characteristics: 250W peak bridgeable 2 channel (peak at 4 Ohms, bridged), 140W RMS (continuous) @ 4 Ohms, bridged. Are these two items compatible? Will I blow something up trying to run the two together? Any and all feedback much appreciated.
Oh, for the time being there are no plans to upgrade or replace any parts of the stock system. Thanks, again.

do not get the stealth box for the S, it is too much. The amp is too big as well. You do not want to blow the speaker by ower powering it. Look into Lucid's 8" box. Fits on the side and takes up no space. As far as amps go, you can get one that is stable at 2 ohms. A 4-ohm speaker can be wired for 2 or 8 ohm loads (assuming it is a Dual Voice Coil) if it is a Single Voice Coil, you will need an amp stable at 4 ohms. Get one that has RMS (continuous power) at or under your speaker's power. Alpine is a very good brand. If you do not want to spend $ on Lucids box (might be over $200) there is a guy on ebay that sells the tool well ones for $150.
