Default Audio setup advice

Hey gurus,

I have a question regarding a potential good deal. A coworker of mine has offered some of his audio equipment to sell at a good deal. Question is whether or not this is a setup that will work in my s2000?....concerned about the amp and sub..

Here is the equipment he is selling if I decide to buy:

Speakers:
Polk Audio db5251 component system

Subwoofer:
JL Audio 8w3v3-8
8ohms, 250 watts continuous

Amp:
JL Audio G1300
150w rms x 1 @ 4 ohms, 300w rms x 1 @ 2 ohms

Any comments will be greatly appreciated!!!

The Polk db5251 are 5.25" speakers, which will fit, but are smaller than the
stock 6.5" speakers, so are probably not ideal.
That amp should only put out 75 watts RMS driving an 8-ohm sub like that one,
which is the minimum JL recommends, and far less than the 150 watts RMS
that they suggest is optimal.

In general, in car audio, one would probably use an 8-ohm sub in parallel
with another one to achieve a 4-ohm load.
Personally, I wouldn't buy any of the gear - the components aren't the right
size, the sub isn't really suitable, and you don't know if the amp is suitable
until you've chosen the rest of the system, or at least the sub.

This probably doesn't help you much as far as how they sound in the S2K, but I have Polk DB's in my EP3. I have the 6.5 components in the front, and 6.5 coaxials in the back. I also have a Polk Momo 10" sub in the hatch with Alpine mono amp. I think they sound pretty good and I am only driving the 6.5's (front and rear) with my Kenwood Excelon headunit. They will play pretty loud and clear with just the headunit pushing them. Sure, if I push them too loud they will start to distort some and I'd most likely benefit from an dedicated amp for them. However, at the volume level they start to distort, I wouldn't want it much louder for any length of time anyway. For the money, I think they are pretty good. Look around, they can be had for very reasonable prices.

I have a version of your proposed speakers in my vehicle, the polk/momo mm6551 (doors), accompanied by the polk/momo mm5251 in the roll hoops in a set of s-pods. As far as a sub goes, I have a shallow mount 10" Alpine type-r in a box in the passenger footwell (which was made by Andy, a member on here). The amplifier (alpine pdx-f6) is powering my fronts and sub, while the rears are powered by the head unit. I have no complaints about my setup, seems to be more than adequate, even with the top down. If you do purchase those 5.25's, I'd stick them in the roll hoops, or the trim panels behind the seats, and get yourself some 6.5 inch front speakers. I agree with oth about the amp and sub. While the sub's 150 watt RMS rating should be more than suitable for a little bit of added thump, the amp is not able to put out the necessary power.

Well looks like im dumping the speakers and getting the Polk db6501 components. Will the amp mentioned above be sufficient enough and to add a sub later?
