Default New amp (jl 300/2)

So I swapped out the amps today, installed the jl 300/2 but Im having troubles....
when I raise the volume(even to half way), the speakers cut out. It doesnt seem like the amp should be overheating, the amp has plenty of airspace. Its in the gas tank area with the tray removed, so airspace all around it.
Could it be the settings I have on the amp?
What are reasonable Frequencies, input sens, filters etc.
Thanks

You'll need to describe your system in better detail.

I would start by checking the gain setting as this amp will put out 150 watts rms and your speakers are rated at 100 watts rms. I would follow the directions for settting the gain and back it off a little bit more.

What is the voltage at the amp when this happens? have you verified that none of the speaker wires are shorting out? that is the first two things that pop into my head..

How can you tell if the speaker wires are shorting out... b/c im sort of getting this feel.
What would cause wires to short out? If somehow some of hte wire is exposed and it touches metal or something? If the wires we shorting out...would I have to run completely new wire?
The amp has a warning light on it that is supposed to light up during a short, and I could not see this occuring.
Could the wrong size power and ground wire be a cause of this? I have 4 gauge running from the battery to the distrib block, and 8 gauge running from the distrib block to the amp. In the amp manual, it recommends 0/1 to distrib and 4 gauge to amp....What is hte chance this is the entire problem? I really dont want to have to run all those wires again, but I will if I have too.

There are a LOT of things that can cause a speaker wire to short. If you have a meter that can measure resistance just disconnect the speaker wire from the amp, put one lead to ground and the other to the speaker leads. If you have ANY resistance to ground that is a problem.

Yes, the low ohms light is on, but it wasnt last night...or maybe I just couldnt see it lit up for some reason, glare or whatever.

Resistance to ground? Would this mean that my grounding point is bad? I had used the same grounding point for both amps. Put both terminals, on on top of the other, and then bolted them down. but I had no problem witht his when I was using the other amp....if this is the problem, why would it be messing up now? Stronger the amp, more important the grounding point?
