So, I've been researching installing an PC in the car and a touchscreen LCD. Any recommendations on:
1) A touchscreen LCD that can display info and also give input to a PC.
2) A PC that can be installed in the car, and can be wired to go in and out of Stand By mode when the key turned on/off. This seems to be hardest to find, but I did find one company that did this.... I just forgot to bookmark it, so have to go buy another copy of Honda Tuning where I saw the name of the company in a full page add...
3) A GPS and software that can integrate, and is similar in quality the Garmin Street Pilot 3. I'm looking for as powerful an interface, and more importantly as accurate data.
4) Eventually, an installer in LA that can cut up my dash for the LCD...
5) Any thoughts on GPRS? I find this may be useful as there have been many times for person and work that I needed to get an address or look up some information, and didn't have my laptop, or didn't feel like finding the nearest Starbucks...

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary
I see you posted this in 2004. As of January 1st, 2004 it is illegal to have any monitor operating in view of the driver (or forward of the front seats) that is not a backup camera or GPS nav unit. And even then the backup camera can only operate when the car is in reverse.

Here's the actual bill:

If that PC is capable of running any applications other than GPS, it had better have a lockout device that prevents operating it when the car is moving.

I understand that. I'll take the risk to see how if I ever get a ticket over it.

Most of the time I'll be running an AEM dash anyways... I can defend that it's for that. I think most cops would let you off. I think the technicality is that the system *could* run business or video entertainment software, but the question is if it isn't will they write you a ticket.

Simple, come visit California and listed to local law enforcement (particularly the LA County Sheriff) scream about needing more taxes and more revenue.

I'm only posting a warning. It's no skin off my butt one way or the other. If it doesn't look stock, be prepared to prove what it is (and is not) in court.

The way the law is worded now, if a passenger in the front seat is playing with a GameBoy, the driver can be cited.
