Default Autostart for manual trans?

I think I heard that there is a system that is legal now. I want to get auto start becasue its to damn cold. Anyone know of a good brand? Also do I need to get a whole new alarm system or will it work with the factory alarm and fobs?

BTW this would be for a Civic Si and maybe my S if it works out well. If I have to go with a whole new alarm syatem I would also like remote trunk added in.

Any suggestions?

I don't know how the DEI system works but be careful with remote-start on a manual transmission. Aside from the immobilizer issue (which can be faked out with a spare key hidden in the car) the tough part is determining if it's "safe" to start the car, i.e. is it in neutral and is the e-brake on?

Most factory e-brake sensors are designed to make sure the brake is completely off so you don't cook the brakes when driving. This means they will send a "brake on" signal if only pulled up one click - not enough to keep the vehicle from moving. So that's one possible unsafe condition.

I think some systems verify neutral by requiring you release the clutch with the engine running just before shutdown, which you can only do if it's in neutral. Then if it sees the clutch depressed again, it won't start. But it's possible to put it in gear with the engine off without using the clutch, which makes for a second possible unsafe condition.

While I have remote start in my car (and love it) I added a separate e-brake switch that only activates if the brake is fully up. Then I added a neutral switch to the shifter, and a connection to the speedometer sensor. As wired my system requires both the e-brake be up and the transmission be in neutral before it will start, and if it sees one speed pulse (1/2 inch of movement) it will kill the ignition. So I feel pretty safe with my system.

All that's a lot of custom work to do and I apologize for not being able to point you to info on how to do it, maybe I'll put in on my web site one day. I have posted about it though so maybe you can find some of it in this forum.

I installed a Ultra 1256M-LR on my friends 99 Civic EX manual trans. It has about two safety options to avoid starting it in gear. But, you have to bypass the clutch. To start the car remotely, put the gear in neutral, raise the parking brake, tap the brake pedal twice, turn off and remove the key in the ignition (car will be still running), get out the car, close the door (car will shut off), and remotely lock/arm the car. Check the link.

Just say no to what?

I called around, only specialty shops will do manual installs. BB or CC dont have the new equipment. Everyone around me just caries Omni and Compustar.

The ONLY manufacturer than has a REAL remote start for a MANUAL trans. car is compustar. I just installed on in my friend's RSX, and it is 100% idiot proof.

Let me know if you need install help...im in NYC.
