Default B Quiet Ulitmate vs. Dynamat Extreme

Just thought I would post my personal experience with both products.

I recently installed a new sound system in the S and thought this would be a good opportunity to add some sound deadening as I had a good portion of the interior apart and the trunk as well. I checked out a great link to sound deadening where the author tested several products. He found that B Quiet Ultimate was a decent product for the price so I bought a 50 sq ft pack from an EBAY vendor for $125 shipped. Well it turns out that I decided to do the install before the product arrived. So I decided to do the interior in Dynamat and found Circuit City to have the best local price but much higher than the EBAY prices. I bought the 20 sq ft trunk kit for $129 + tax(ouch). The 20sq ft kit was just enough to do the floor pan from the cross brace back and up, the sides of the tranny tunnel, a small section behind the speakers in the door, and underneath the cup holder with a little left over. I found that small strips worked great to hold the wire for the new tweeters to the back side of the door panel as well, the stuff is really sticky.

The B Quiet Ultimate showed up today and I did the entire trunk with it and probably have 25 feet left over. It comes in a 12" wide roll vs. the 18" wide sheets of Dynamat. Overall it wasn't much different than the Dynamat, here is my conclusion:

Dynamat-slightly thicker(2.17mm vs 1.82mm)
Dynamat-seems to have more Butyl content, B Quiet was noticeably more asphalt but was not messy.
Both were very sticky
B Quiet-seemed to roll out imperfections easier, I think this is because it is thinner.
Dynamat-looked cooler with the logo printed on it, B Quiet has no printing, but do you ever see it?

So my conclusion is that B Quiet is a good value, you get more than twice as much for almost the same price.

So did it make a difference? I mean with a soft top how much noise can be cut by this effort.
Don't get me wrong I think its a great thing to do in hardtops but not sure about in the S

Before soundproofing my car, the drone from my exhaust was unbearable. Afterwards, inside the cabin it sounds stock.

Dynamat doesn't cut it though in terms of soundproofing. You won't notice much of a difference.

Sound Deadening lab comparisons:

For those that are interested in Dynamat Xtreme, woofersetc.com has the 36' sq. ft. bulk pack for $128. I have purchased 3 bulk packs in the past for my '05 and the company was good to deal with.

go to the elemental designs site. their edead has all been redesigned. both versions are now buty rubber and it's pretty inexpensive. to save even more, go to their forum site and get their discount with comes out to about 1.20 per sq ft on their edeadv2se.

Neuspeed. Not the loudest, but not the quietest either.

I really didn't intend for this to turn into a should you do it, or this product is better than that product thread.

My intent was to provide a real word comparison across the two products.

I don't have a DB meter so I can't tell you if it helped, I decided to do it based on the research I have done. I selected the products based on the same research. I had a limited amount of time to accomplish the task so I used products that went on pretty quickly and did not have to dry or require multiple coats. I believe what I did accomplished 60-70% of what can be accomplished for the least amount of effort. As stated in another post, it is a soft top so you will always have a certain amount of noise related to the top(up or down).
