Default Bass Shaker problems?

I just recently installed some bass shakers and am very pleased with them. I have noticed though that on some of the rap songs it seems that the frequency drops so low that the bass shakers start to make a metal clinging sound. Has anyone else experienced this? I have them installed in the map pockets behind the seat. At first I thought it was my sunglasses vibrating in the glove compartment to give you an idea of what it sounds like.

You put them in the pockets on the back of the seats?

Yes, I got the idea from reading this forum, it works out great since I don't have to do any drilling and the fitment is tight in the lower back of the seat.

Have you tried moving them and seeing if they still make that same sound? Like putting them under the seat on the floor. You can use velcro to secure them to the floor instead of drilling holes.

That sounds like you've reached the excursion limit of the drivers. How much power are you running to them and are they the standard or pro versions?

I would guess that mounting them to a solid surface would help since it should limit the excursion.

A regular speaker will either distort (hard to hear) or bottom the voice coil on the magnet (very audible) when it runs out of excursion room. I've not taken apart a shaker but I'm sure it's built like a speaker but with a big metal weight instead of a paper cone, so that would account for the metallic sound.

There is a thread (can't find it right now) in the UK group that shows, with diagrams, how to bolt the BS Pros to the seats. I completed this project last year. I took a couple of hours with the right tools handy (of course) but was not difficult at all. I'm very pleased with the results.

it's been a LONG time since i've read the specs on the bass shakers, but aren't the standard versions rated only for like... 15 watts RMS or something?
