Shouldn't be a problem, I ran mine with a 50W (RMS) per channel amp and didn't have any issues. They're now running on a 25WRMS amp and I just adjusted the gain so they felt right.

These are the same shakers I had in my '97 Eclipse so they've been around a while. You're sure you don't have anything in the pocket they could rattle against, like a wire nut, connector, beer can?

No, there isn't anything in the pocket. From this post I do believe that it is a matter of the excursion limit being in effect. It only happens when songs have a very low frequency associated with them (so low that I didn't even know that they existed before) as mentioned before it only happens with rap songs.

I've had mine in the map pockets since day one without issue. They're rated for 25Wrms, and I've always run them with a 40-50W head.

If you hear a metallic ringing, it's possible the weights are coming into contact with something, maybe an internal bracket that has come loose, etc. Not much you can do except take them apart and see if the path is clear.

They're nothing more than a spinning motor with an off-center weight, so there's not much to hurt inside.

Thanks for all the advice, I will take them apart and see if I noticed anything obstructing their path.

Oh, I should also add... make sure there's nothing on the seat itself that's ringing...

curious.... good info all around here.

so, you're saying you're sending about 18-22 Wrms to them?

Oh gee, here I go arguing with MacGyver again. (my physics is showing)

Wanna bet? I'll bet you a chocolate milkshake they're not. I've never had one apart but I bet they're linear motors (like a speaker) with big weights instead of speaker cones.

Now, who wants to trash their bass shakers so we can find out? I feel like a chocolate milkshake.

No bet here, you could be correct on this one. I've never bothered to open one up, a spinning motor just seemed the simple way to do it. I'm curious to know, though, what method they chose...
