Default Best Battery?

Ok, running on 2 years on my stock battery. It is starting to struggle a bit starting the car, so I think it is about time to replace it so I don't get stuck somewhere in the heat.

Does anyone have any particular brand of battery that you have found to work well for our car? I have a 1000watt sound system and do live in a climate that reaches over 100 degrees on a daily basis for 4 months out of the year.

If anyone has had any particular luck let me know, otherwise I may just run to sears and grab a Die Hard.

Thanks!

JJ

Here in Florida where it also gets very hot, we have good luck with Interstate. That will be the first place I look for a compatible battery when mine goes.

Do you work at the AFB? And yes, your neck of the woods gets searingly hot! I know- lived in Yuma for almost 13 full years.

You may want to look into the Hawker battery. It's definitely lighter than a stock battery. I point this out because you obviously care about some performance, being SC'ed and all. They may still be out of stock in the Marketplace. This may be the same battery if they are out of stock. Not sure about the metal shield the Marketplace says is paramount.

No not at the AFB, but I live right next to it! Love to watch those F-16's shoot by!.

I looked at the Hawker, but this line bothered me:

"Those running large stereo systems might not want to use this battery."

Good point! I have a large system(two JL 10W3's, two JL amps, nav, PS2, 5 farad cap, power inverter, XM, etc.) myself, but remove everything for track days. That is why I'm considering that battery.

Sorry I was no help. And yes, I, too, miss the sound of jets taking off. Never thought that would happen. Now all we ever hear are the President's helicopters.

Blah,

Stinger re-brands the Hawker Odyssey batteries and sells them as audio specific batteries.

I usually use Die Hard Silver in my other cars, because they got a better rating than the Gold; however, a good friend who was been in the audio business for 15+ (now he sold his store and works in computers like me ) recommended Interstate especially if you have a larger system.

Get a slimline yellow top Optima. Perfect for your application.

There are several S owners with upgraded sound systems running this battery. I will be adding one soon. You can find a good deal on it here Optima Yellow Top D51.

The yellow optima will provide longer service life if you run the stereo long enough (with the engine off) to significantly deplete the battery's charge. That's because it's rated for deep-discharge use, something that will kill normal auto batteries. If you never do that it may not be worth the extra $$.

I just bought a Wal-Mart battery since I don't have any need for deep discharge. And for $40 with a 2-year replacement guarantee it fits my penny-pinching budget.

BTW - the stock battery is rated at 36AH, the Optima is 41. I think the Hawker is like 15AH, which is why it provides little reserve capacity.
