Hmm, okay...

What I've taken from this is the price at Best Buy wasn't SO out of line... the first guy was just a moron for quoting me $150.

I'll keep everyone updated on what I end up doing. Might install it myself this weekend; might take it to Circuit City and see what can be had there.
If you do the install yourself, you can get good stuff all around for < $200. You could more than pay for the upgrade to a 4 gauge amp kit with just the savings from doing the deck yourself.

You should figure out if you want to be able to control the sub from the deck. If so, you'll need two sets of RCA cables... Maybe your deck has a bass control accessory so, that's another option...

Oh yeah I guess the admins haven't gotten around to banning your 4th stupid name...

I know those are the prices 'smarty pants'

Steve you can give him a chance if you want but I'm not... I'm sick of dealing with the know it all's. Steve I can admit I don't know everything, when people make comments that they never make a wiring mistake..., yeah that's just WAY to arrogant for me dude. You can play with him. Have fun with that

actually -- i'd agree. Shifty's comments were quite helpful in this thread.

i would like to point out however, that my 'pricing' estimate of $200-$250 did not take into account much in the way of 'custom' work.

of course, i almost never pay retail for any stereo/electronics i buy (or have installed when i'm too lazy/busy) because i'm fairly sure i can talk my way down on just about any price out there... maybe it's only a couple bucks here and there, but sometimes it's notable. so, my pricing is probably skewed.

Darkness, your looking at it all wrong. When I say Im never wrong, that doesnt mean I know everything. If I dont know the answer to something Im not afraid to ask.

If someone asks me something and I give an answer, I either know it from memory or Ive asked someone who does know, or used available resources to get the answer. Either way gets the same results.

If I knew everything, Id have eleventy billion posts per day and my name would be on every thread.

By saying Im never wrong means Ive taken the initiative of correctly getting the answer/information I need so I can further proceed. Its like, if I post it Its right, if I dont post it or specifically say Im unsure, it may not be right.

Its an odd way to look at it, but in no way should it be taken as arrogance.

Ive done well over 6000 installs since Ive been with CC the past 4 years and out of those 6000+ vehicles, Ive damaged 1.
Am I the only one who stopped to do the math on this one?

6,000+ vehicles in 4 years?! Let's say you work a 40-hour work week, 5 days a week... that's nearly 6 installs a day!!! Just how little time do you actually spend on an install?

So, you're either heavily inflating your numbers, you count even the smallest change to a vehicle an "install", or your installs must really suck to get that kind of speed...

good point mac. that math ain't kosher.

that said, his posts in this thread have not been offensive, or incorrect. and i agree with bass that maybe we should be patient with out new pest, er um, guest. i just think we need to approach shifty's facts as, well for lack of a better word, shifty.
