Default Best Headunit?

In your opinion whats the best headunit(CD, MP3,WMA, DVD, etc) you'd put in your S2000 if, of course, money wasnt an issue for you?

I have an Eclipse 8443. The F1 Alpine stuff, Nakamichi HU's, and the Clarion 9255 are awesome. Off the top of my head, those are the only other headunits I would run.

You don't get the benefits of a really high end setup in this car, because of the lack of sound dampening and the fact it's a convertible. Eclipse is nice, the higher end Alpine (not F1 though) is also good. Some people run the higher end Pioneer and Sony as well.

If money wasn't an issue, I'd buy a separate car for car audio and go all out on that car.

^ Good answer. I agree, the S does make spending a ton of money on the HU a wasted effort, unless you just listen in the driveway.

Me, I look for useable features more than high-end specs. I liked the Alpine because it played WMA files in addtion to MP3, since I've read that WMA is a cleaner compression format. And I liked that it has a true MUTE function (no audio) that pauses CD playback, which is nice. It's also fairly fast at reading MP3 and WMA discs, something my old Sony sucked at (45 seconds to read a disc)

But I've found that I don't like the way it displays MP3/WMA folder/track names. It's positively stoopid. Even with the HU set to display the folder NAME, when you change folders it displays the folder NUMBER for 10 seconds before returning to the name display. Who gives a rat's ass? I want to see the album name, not "F-22".

I did recently play with a JVC unit that did a better job of that. As fast as you could hit the "next folder" button it displayed the NAME. Very nice for blipping through a CD with 25 albums on it.

Whats better? Alpine...7998, 9815, or 9835?

Found out today that eventhough the 9835 is supposed to be the top of the line from Alpine, some places have the 9815 at a higher price!?

I got to find the email confirmation, but I did it with Froogle.com. Type in Alpine 9835 and it will show you where the cheapest ones are. Ill post the website later today.
